Hey there Reader,
My sister was over recently with her three kids, and while I already consider myself pretty busy, caring for multiple tiny humans was a whole other ball game. 😂
It gave me the chance to put some of my favourite kid-friendly cooking and feeding tips into action — and honestly, they worked like a charm.
So this week, I’m sharing a few family-friendly tips and ideas to make cooking and feeding your crew a little easier. Because whether you’re feeding toddlers, teenagers, or just a very hungry household, anything that saves time and makes meals more enjoyable is a win in my books.
Here we go - time for Sizzle, Crunch, Scoop!
- SIZZLE: Cooking hacks, shortcuts, and tools/products I love.
- CRUNCH: Easy meal & snack ideas + practical tips to keep you inspired.
- SCOOP: Real talk on nutrition trends, mindset shifts, and building a healthier relationship with food.

Sometimes you Just Need a Better Name

Introducing a new food doesn't always have to mean putting it on a plate and hoping for the best.
For us, black beans became “dinosaur eggs.” 🦖🥚
We turned it into a little game where the kids had to find the “dinosaur eggs” hiding inside their quesadillas.
And here's the interesting part:
I got the oldest one to hype them up first, which made the younger one much more curious and willing to try them too.
A little creativity + a little peer influence = surprisingly effective.

What could you gamify in your house this week? Can you rename or reframe the next “weird” thing you make to make it feel a little less intimidating?
CRUNCH 🍿
One Pancake. Three kids. Zero Short-Order Cooking.
One thing that worked surprisingly well? Serving sheet pan pancakes family-style.
Instead of putting the same toppings on the entire pancake, I divided it into sections and added different toppings to different corners.
That meant everyone had options and could choose the section they wanted — a little independence without me having to make completely different breakfasts.
Was it completely foolproof? Not exactly.
But was there significantly less complaining than usual. I’ll take the win.

And it’s a strategy you can use beyond pancakes: think build-your-own tacos, bowls, pizzas, sandwiches or snack plates.
Give kids some options within the meal, rather than making an entirely separate meal for everyone.

The Thing I Care About More Than Sugar
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: sugar can absolutely have a place in a balanced diet.
It’s not “bad” for you — it’s neutral.
Sure, we don’t want tons of added sugar in our diet. But sometimes, a little sugar is exactly what a recipe needs to make food more satisfying, balance bitterness, or take the edge off something particularly tart.
You know what matters more than obsessing over your sugar intake?
- Mindfulness at meal and snack times
- Recognizing when you’ve reached comfortable satisfaction
- Fuelling your body regularly
It’s not about fearing sugar or trying to eliminate it.
It’s about finding balance — being able to enjoy it, tune into your satisfaction, and recognize when you’ve genuinely had enough.
As always, if you have any questions or need any additional support, feel free to hit reply or book an appointment.
Stay well,
