šŸ³ Sizzle, Crunch, Scoop - No. 67

Hey there Reader,

I’m back from Colombia and wow, what an unbelievable experience. There were so many surprises, lots of amazing food (many deep-fried, to be completely honest!), and oh, how I missed my fresh veggies!

It is always so interesting to experience new cultures, yet equally comforting to return to our usual routine. I'm feeling inspired after some much-needed time off and am looking forward to incorporating some of the things I loved into my home-cooked meals.

Right now, I am also in serious need of a snack restock and meal prep. If you're free this Sunday, it's not too late to join me for Mocktails & Meal Prep on June 28th at 3:30 PM. I'll send you the prep guide, and you can even get your groceries delivered through Instacart in a few simple steps!

Okay, here we go - time for this week's Sizzle, Crunch, Scoop!

  • SIZZLE: Cooking hacks, shortcuts, and tools/products I love.
  • CRUNCH: Easy meal & snack ideas + practical tips to keep you inspired.
  • SCOOP: Real talk on nutrition trends, mindset shifts, and building a healthier relationship with food.

Eat Fresh, Spend Less This Summer

A simple way to make your meals feel fresher (and often more affordable) is to shop seasonally. And what better time to head to the local market than right now!

Fruits and veggies this time of year at their absolute peak flavour because they are harvested closer to peak ripeness.

Since they don't have to travel as far to reach your plate, they also last longer in your fridge and are usually much friendlier on your grocery budget.

Instead of buying the exact same produce every week, plan your meals based on what’s fresh. It naturally adds variety to your meals, boosts your nutrient intake, and leaves you feeling way more satisfied.

3 Simple Ways to Start:

  1. Check the flyers: Grocery stores always put front-and-center displays for what’s currently in season.
  2. Visit a farmers market: It’s a great weekend ritual and directly supports local growers (you'll find me at the Navan Little Market once a week, minimum!)
  3. The "Plus-One" Rule: If buying new fruits and veggies feel overwhelming, pick 1–2 seasonal foods each week to add to your usual go-to meals.

The Ultimate "Use-It-Up" Fruit Crisp

Looking for a delicious way to clear out fruit that's seen better days?

A homemade fruit crisp with an oatmeal crust is comforting enough for dessert, but wholesome enough to double as a breakfast or snack!

Why it works?

High Fibre & Less Sugar: An oatmeal topping adds a filling fibre boost, and you get total control over how much sweetener you add.

The Ultimate Waste-Slayer: It’s the perfect home for fruit that’s getting a little soft or wrinkled—once baked, it all tastes incredible.

Endless Possibilities: You can use almost anything! Try strawberry rhubarb right now, peaches or berries later in the summer, or apples and frozen fruit year-round.

How to make it?

Toss your chopped fruit with a squeeze of lemon juice and a pinch of cornstarch. Top with a mixture of rolled oats, cinnamon, a splash of melted butter or oil, and a touch of maple syrup or brown sugar. Bake at 350°F (180°C) until bubbly and golden brown. Pairs perfectly with Greek yogurt or a scoop of ice cream!

Food Freedom (Ditch the Labels)

It’s easy to fall into the habit of labeling foods as strictly "good" or "bad," but that all-or-nothing mindset rarely helps us in the long run. Instead, it usually triggers a cycle of guilt, restriction, and feeling like you’ve "messed up."

Sound familiar?

  • "I shouldn’t have eaten that."
  • "I’ll be better tomorrow."
  • "I need to work this off."

Food isn't a reward you have to earn, and it's not something you need to compensate for. All foods can fit. While some foods absolutely nourish you more, keep you fuller longer, or give you more steady energy, that doesn’t make less-nutritional choices "bad."

A healthier approach:

Look at your overall pattern instead of judging individual choices. Think about how you’re nourishing yourself across the entire day or week, not just during a single snack or meal.

One food decision doesn't define your health. Food is allowed to be enjoyed—because enjoying what you eat is a beautiful part of life!

As always, if you have any questions or need any additional support, feel free to hit reply, I'd love to chat.

Stay well,
