🍳 Sizzle, Crunch, Scoop - Maine here I come!! 🦞

Hey there Reader,

Is it just me, or is the stress of back-to-school season and post-summer blues starting to creep in? I haven't even left for vacation yet! 😬

I'll be heading to Maine for a few days, and I’ve made a promise to myself: I’ll live in the moment, not let my to-do list overshadow my vacation mindset, and continue prioritizing my health with enjoyable movement, delicious food, and quality family time. I’ll share more about this in the 'Scoop' section below!

That said, if you're one of my clients, it might take me a bit longer than usual to respond to emails in the upcoming week. Please know that I’m taking some well-deserved R&R so I can show up as my best self when I return!

Without any further due, let's dive in to this week's Sizzle, Crunch, Scoop:

  • SIZZLE: Must-try cooking hack that'll save you time, energy, and money.
  • CRUNCH: Boost of inspiration to keep you going, like a crunchy snack on a rough day.
  • SCOOP: Latest scoop on a trending nutrition topic + insights from your fave dietitian ;)

SIZZLE 🍳

An Oldie but a Goodie!

TIP: Mix in a bit of plain Greek yogourt with your favourite store-bought dip! You'll still get a yummy and creamy dip, with more protein and less fat. It's so easy and I bet it will leave you feeling satisfied for longer.

Wondering what else you can do with plain Greek yogourt? It's my absolute favourite grocery staple and I made a blog post all about it ➡️ check it out here.

Healthy Eating on Vacation? That's Impossible, or Is It?

Well, it depends on how you define healthy eating, to be honest! If you’re imagining homemade meals all day, calorie-free drinks, no added sugars or fried foods, and a plate full of fruits and veggies at every meal—well, that’s probably not going to happen. But by now, you should know that’s not really my vibe anyway. In fact, I’d argue that such a rigid approach is nearly impossible, even on a regular day. And where’s the fun in that?

So, let’s redefine healthy eating and share some hacks to make it both possible and enjoyable on your next vacation.

Healthy eating is all about balance. It’s about enjoying the fun foods that make us happy while also fuelling our bodies with the nutrients it needs to feel our best. And for the record, those nutrient-rich foods can be fun too!

So, what does "balance" look like on vacation? Here are some tips to achieve just that:

So, what does 'balance' look like on vacation? Here are some tips to help you achieve it:

  • Carry a water bottle: Depending on where you’re traveling, it can be challenging to stay hydrated on the go. Keep a water bottle with you so you always have access to fluids and can stay energized throughout your day.
  • Pack on-the-go snacks: The last thing you want is to arrive at a restaurant STARVING!! We’ve all been there—you might feel unwell or end up ordering too much food, only to feel even worse afterward. Bring snacks to keep your hunger in check between meals so you can arrive at the restaurant comfortably hungry.
  • Have a plan for fruits and veggies: Let’s be honest, getting enough fruits and veggies while traveling can be tough, especially when you’re relying on restaurants. My go-to hack is to stop by a local grocery store and pick up some fresh produce for the trip. Plus, you might even discover new, local varieties you’ve never tried before!
  • Incorporate enjoyable movement: Moving your body helps with digestion, making room for all the delicious foods you want to try while traveling!
  • Be mindful and savor every bite: Check in with yourself before, during, and after your meals. Are you still enjoying the food as much as you did with the first bite? Are you eating slowly and savoring each mouthful? Honor both your hunger and fullness cues, and don’t be afraid to ask for a to-go box. You’ll enjoy the leftovers much more on an empty stomach rather than trying to finish everything just because it’s there.

As always, if you have any questions or need any additional support, feel free to shoot me an email or better yet, book an appointment.

Stay well,
